Primary education begins at the age of 7 right up to 12 years old. Children who were born in 2005 have to be registered at a local school this year. Honestly, I think we are the slackest parents. Last week, I saw Peggy’s FB status that she has registered Kylie in the primary school and later that day, I read Jazz’s blog about her hunt for Faythe’s primary school. I started to panic a bit (actually a lot) because we have not done anything. We have to be real early to register our kids as space is limited in the schools that we like. I quickly checked with Jazz on the school she picked for Faythe and then discussed with hubs on the school that he prefers.
Can you believe it? We have not even decided on the school to send her. My dad suggested that we enroll Ashley in a school in his neigbourhood since it’s nearer to our office. Oookay….so last Friday, after sending Ashley off to her kindergarten, we went to the said school armed with the following :-
1) Ashley’s Original Birth Certificate
2) Photocopies of the Birth Cert, our Identification Cards and a utility bill as they need to verify the address of the house 😛
The registration process was pretty fast. I didn’t know they are so up-to-date now. I was shown a computer at the office where I need to key in all the personal particulars and then print out the form. Passed everything to the office staff and after she has compiled everything, we left. It took about 15 mins only.
Then we walked around the school to have a look. I think most parents would check out the school before registering their children but we are just the opposite. Slackers! It is a pretty big school with security guards at the entrance. There are many CCTVs installed around the school. I like that 🙂 I just wonder what is the situation like at the school entrance during dismissal. Maybe I ought to make a trip there to check it out. Just keeping my fingers crossed that Ashley would get to go to this school (results will be out next year) and that we made the right decision to send her to this one 🙂
Sounds like a good school. 🙂 Is it a chinese or kebangsaan primary school?
Ashley is going to a Chinese primary school 🙂
like ur pic :P.
hope u get the school that you have selected 🙂
Pray that Ashley will be successful. What is the criteria to enter the school? Is it based on your where you live or how early you get on the registration list? Just curious to know. In Oz, with public schools, all children will definitely be able to enter if they live in the catchment area. If one lives outside the school catchment’s area, then one will have to wait to see if there are spots left after local residents get 1st preference. Private schools have different criteria – based on siblings, old girls/boys’ children, religion, and then the rest if you don’t fulfil the 1st 3 criteria. Complicated! For good private schools, most parents will enroll their children from birth, so chiat lat!
Most importantly it is based on where we live 😛 we don’t live in that area but we work nearby. guess we’ll have to get a house there soon 😉
Oh….it was that easy? I thought had to go to Education Centry or something! 🙂
Yeah…I hope Ashley will like the school too. Wow….big girl already! I also curious is it Chinese or Kebangsaan school?
thanks 🙂 she’ll be going to a Chinese Primary school
Woww Ashley will be going to Primary One soon! Times do flies.. I am pretty sure Ashely will be able to go to that school. 🙂
ah…we have yet to register avery though we already know which school we’ll enrol her. gotta do it by today :p
phew…at least one “To-Do” checked!
decisions decisions…aren’t they difficult to make esp. since we’re talking abt our kids’ education? good to hear that you’re sending to chinese sch :p
I registered my girl at age 6 instead of 5. No wonder all the places were taken and we got sent to another school much further than our initial choice. Hahaha. Fortunately it is a good school and we decided not to appeal after visiting the school. So far, we have no regrets. 🙂
Oh..have to register so early in advcance. My gal borned in Yr 2006, meaning have to register next yr edy..Gosh, i hope i remember then.
I also just registered my boys last friday. :(. I think chinese school more competitive, national one not so. I get the forms first then fill in then submit, procedure quite fast also. We only know the result next year July.
Good luck, hope Ashley can go to the school that you choose. 🙂
Oh have to wait until next year to know the result? I didn’t know that. We were so kiasu (ignorant actually), we went to register C at 2yo, and got rejected haha.
we havent registered for ashley yet though..will do it this week,…
Wah…so canggih ka school nowadays?? Good for us also lor lidat :)))
hopefully the school will take her in and it looks like a good school…now I need to start survey some Chinese school nearby my place, so that I can get prepared..
aiya wasted…should have borrowed your address then…I wanted Kylie to go to the school which is close to your house…that one super strict and your address definitely qualifies!!!
hey Barb, would you mind sharing which skool you registered Ashley at. Email me if you can. Even though we have 2 more years before we need to register but i am collecting skool’s info right now. thanks ya..:-)..sounds so kiasu right me? kkekek
Now you make me worry. Over the CNY, some relatives was asking if I’ve registered YX into primary school. They said 3 y.o can register alrady. Otherwise, you won’t get a place at the school you choose. Aiyo… until now I’ve not done anything yet. He was born in year 2006. I think can only register next year right?
i don’t think you can register him yet. if you are worried then maybe you can go to the school of your choice to ask first. you know what?
Ha ha, I went through this twice, one more to go, have to register my little toddler in 2012.
Next yr will be Yan Yan turns to register for primary school. But I dont find any good school near our neighbourhood 🙁
shan leo will be attending std 1 next year, and mummy just managed to register him. its not exactly the school that she wanted, but it seems that there isn’t much choice available *sigh*
good luck barb =)
