Last Sunday, my husband went for the Astra Zeneca vaccine. This vaccine is open to residents in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor who choose to take it. Initially, Astra Zeneca vaccine is given to Malaysian citizens together with Pfizer and Sinovac but because of its controversial risk of blood clots, many people decided not to sign up for vaccination for fear of given the AstraZeneca vaccine. Thus, the government took this vaccine out of their mass vaccination program and open the choice those who want to take it voluntarily. Registration for the first batch was on 2 May 2021 and hubs got the appointment on 9th May. The vaccination was done at the World Trade Center (WTC). Everything ran smoothly and it only took about an hour from the time he reached the WTC to the vaccination.
When he arrived at WTC, he had to register and then wait for his turn. A doctor will assess the health by asking a few questions and see whether he is suitable to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine. After the jab, he had to wait for about 15 minutes before leaving the WTC. This is done to make sure all is ok before he leaves and there is no side effects.
24 hours after the jab, hubs experienced some side effects like sore arm where the injection was, body ache, a bit of chill, slight fever and back ache. After experiencing the side effects for 24 hours, he is back to normal.

The next day, it was my mother-in-law’s turn to be vaccinated at a community hall in Kepong. She received the appointment on her MySejahtera app about 2 weeks ago. Initially it was scheduled for 3th May but the appointment changed suddenly without any notification. Luckily hubs checked the app and discovered that the appointment has been changed to 10th May.
That’s her waiting for her turn. She got the Pfizer vaccine. She did not experience any serious side effects. She just said that her arm was sore and she felt sleepy. After 24 hours, she is back to normal.
I cannot wait for my turn to arrive. I have decided to sign up for AstraZeneca when they reopen the 2nd batch for registration. I did not sign up earlier as I was unsure if I could take it because I am allergic to Ponstan medication.
