We went back to Ipoh over the weekend for hubby’s alma mater Centennial dinner. While hubs went for the dinner, I managed to catch up with my besties. Though it was a short trip, I am glad we all had a great time with our friends and we also managed to taste the delicious food from our beloved hometown.
Delightful egg caramel at Thean Chun Coffeeshop in Old Town
The most delicious “kai see hor fun” (Chicken koay teow soup). A must-eat when in Ipoh. I could drink the whole bowl of soup after finishing the noodles but because there were people waiting for our table, I feel bad for taking so long to eat.
Our favourite – The ‘sar kok liew’ (deep fried stuffed turnip). Hubs bought 20 pieces from the stall next to the “Kai See Hor Fun”. Yummy! You can’t find them in KL.
The missy waiting for her fishballs for breakfast. She wanted toast kaya/butter bread but they don’t serve any at Thean Chun or Kong Heng.
During dinner with my girlfriends, one of them brought some homemade blackberries tart. They were simply awesome. She knows I always drool at the food photos she posted in her blog …hahaha
After coming back from Ipoh, we had another round of gathering at my buddy‘s place for Mid Autumn Festival celebration. Had a great time eating the sumptuous BBQ and chatting with my buddies, Annie and Elaine. The kids of course had a great time too.
the good friends 🙂
Share the addresses of those places! Then can go look for it next time in Ipoh. I like the last pic. Already started to match make the kids? Hehehe.
Good for you, Barb. Your weekend was so eventful too.
i really think that is the best kai see hor fun in town! eh, you already got the best ‘ hor fun’ darling in the world!!
very funny ah!
Ah, you just reminded me that our Ipoh trip is long overdue. I want to have that bowl of hor fun too :p
Oh really the The ‘sar kok liew’ cannot be found in KL? Then you need to come back Ipoh more often…haha. You should go to the big tree stall at pasir pinji to but the variety of fish paste there. I’m a a fan of big tree stall.
Barb, your hubby from SMI? A trip back home is never complete without eating some of our tasty food. Seems like your taste is the same like mine too..
Glad to hear that you have a wonderful Mid-Autumn with your buddies. 🙂

OH my those famous Ipoh hawker’s food are making me drool and home sick. Each time I see your pix on Ipoh, I miss home too hehe..
I love yummy Ipoh food! Eh, the “sar kok liu”, can get in KL la. One place that comes to mind is a coffee shop called “Chicken Cuisine” in Glenmarie, Shah Alam. The curry mee in that shop is absolutly yummy.
can? are they just as good? but to go all the way to glenmarie….hmmm…better go back to ipoh…hahhaa
Oh, i like that bowl of kai si hor fun!!Look really yummy!!
Have not see that sar kot liew before, Ipoh delicacy?
