For the past 1 month, Ashley has been on antibiotics because of the abscess on her knee. The first bottle was from her paed for a week, the 2nd bottle was from a GP which I took her to see for 2nd opinion and then followed by 10 days of antibiotic given by the paediatric surgeon who treated the abscess. I was really worried about her taking too much of it. When I asked the surgeon, he said there is no choice but to prescribed because of the bacteria infection. After I voiced my concern, he prescribed Ashley with a box of Restore Probiotic. This is to restore friendly bacteria 🙂
a box of 15 sachet. Ashley is to take one a day.
Probiotics has a list of good health-promoting characteristics such as
To maintain a correct microbial balance in the human intestines;
To kill a large number of disease-causing bacteria, yeasts and viruses;
To stop diarrhoea and constipation
To produce a number of vitamins;
To alleviate the symptoms of lactose intolerance;
To prevent some forms of colon cancer;
To prevent and treat some forms of food allergies;
To decrease flatulence.
Don’t I sound like someone from the medical assistant school? *wink*
The paediatric surgeon also suggested that Ashley takes a bottle of Yakult every day. It helps to balance the digestive system, improve nutrient absorption and boost natural defenses. He told us that he drinks one bottle a day 🙂 Since it is a recommendation from the doctor, we have been giving her a bottle a day. Do you let your children take Probiotics? What about Yakult?
my son didnt take yakult. but takes nutrigen/vitagen
My boy takes Yakult but not probiotics. A professor recommended probiotics when my mom had chemo-induced diarrhea to help build up friendly bacterias killed by chemo drugs. Guess it works the same way with antibiotics.
I’m sure Ashley looks forward to her yakult drink everyday ya..;)
Philip is on Yakult and probiotics EVERYDAY!
oh, is it alright to take probiotics everyday? i only give ashley probiotics after she has taken antibiotics each time.
Cassandra took probiotics too when she was on daily antibiotics for 14 months. But from my experience with her, probiotics didn’t really work, I mean I didn’t see any improvements. She took one of the most expensive probiotics in the market too. Some of our doctors don’t believe in probiotics at all and some are all for probiotics!
Vitagen or Yakult are kids all time favourite. Talking about that, I should stock up more Yakult in my fridge.
Someone asked me to drink Yakault each day.. yes.. colon cleanser…and for my girl, for her skin, drink vitagen daily.. 🙂
I make Easiyo organic plain yoghurt for my boy and myself regularly. It contains 5 strains of good bacteria and is super fresh since it’s homemade. Probiotics powder sounds fine. The number of existing live bacteria in off-the-shelf yoghurt and yoghurt drinks could actually be very low.
true..probiotics is beneficial..
I usually drink yakult too, not everyday, but pretty often. Beside it tastes good yet also healthy! 😀
Oh yes, probiotics is anytime better than prebiotics! I prefer yogurt rather than cultured drinks, found the latter way too sweet for my kids!:D
have a nice day!
My mom is on probiotics daily in order to improve her digestive system, while my daughter has cultured drinks alternate day 🙂
The paed prescribed the same probiotic as Ashley for bb Damien as Damien had some constipation problem earlier. Now that he has no problem, I’m too lazy to feed him…hehe..but yeah, it’s good, should at least finish all ‘cos it doesn’t come cheap too yeah :p As for me, I take probiotics everyday as I’m still nursing bb exclusively.
Halo, I’m back! LOL 😀
Hope your girl is feeling much better now…
Oh…so it is good to consume Yakult? My boys got different taste..Fearles like yakult and Cruz like Vitagen. I give them daily. Maybe now i should start to take some yakult too.
I only give Vitagen. But over here they don’t sell vitagen. It’s a diff brand but tastes the same. Yakult too sometimes. I only gave her probiotics once whe she had food poisoning sometime back.
I did let Angel take probiotics but only when recommended by the doctor especially when she is having mild diarrhea. Yakult I didn’t give her that often due to she is allergy to cow milk, too bad ya.
My children also loves Yakult and Vitagen. I also adds some natural and fresh yogurt to their daily fruit intake for better digestion.
Chloe LOVES Yakult but I find it too sweet. I usually get the Yakult Light (less sugar) for her. I don’t allow her to have it everyday though… maybe just 2-3 bottles a week.
I’m not given Elyssa any yakult/vitagen before cos i think it’s too sweet. But she gets to eat plenty of plain homemade yoghurt. (not made by lazy me, but my mum 🙂 )
My son is taking Vitagen…no yakult at sibu.
I’m surprised the doc recommended Yakult. My PIL is a chemist and he said that the amount of probiotics in the drink is so miniscule that it won’t make any difference to the gut. But my kids drink it anyway 🙂
oh really? so i guess those in sachets are better eh? since the doc recommended it, i thought it must be good 😀
Yakult so good? hehe~ My boy drink, sometimes only..
Yeah….yogurt and yogurt drinks are a common thing in my fridge. Son is on Mamex so that is good in itself for probiotics. But Caylee had to take a bout of probiotics when she was young coz she was constipating.
my kids drink yakult and take yoghurt everyday. They love it! I hope Ashley gets week soon yea!
It;s ok to be on probiotics everyday. Amber’s doc. presribed probiotics to treat her candida but since it’s been cleared, he encourage us to continue with it. We’ve stopped for a while.. and sometimes put her back on the course. It’s really expensive to take probiotics everyday.
PL is right.. the probiotics in yakult n vitagen is so little.. doesn’t help much and the drinks are full of sugar too but I guess as a daily treat for the kids, it’s ok. Better than soft drinks !
hmm..yakult is gud i heard… for us all n kids, so i usually giv kyle everyday but like chloemummy, i usually get him the yakult light 😉 no probiotics yet as im feeding him colostrum. But will start eventually…
