New York New York

My sister came back from London last week and she bought some of my favourite food – Bagels. I haven’t had them in a while. There is just something about bagels which I love very much. The packet of cinnamon and raisins bagels from New York Bakery Co. were really yummy.  This packet only cost 1 pound.  Cheap huh?  I don’t know why bagels are so expensive over here and they are also not fresh either.  You can find them in the frozen food department.  This packet of bagels reminds me of trip to New York City.  I had bagels with cream cheese for breakfast when I was there and then walked around Times Square, trying to absorb the sight and sound.  There were so many people at Times Square, some were dancing, busking and performing with the saxophone.  I so miss New York City.

Her Daily To-Do Tasks

Every evening as soon as we reach home, Ashley knows she has a few tasks to do.  After her shower, she would need to check her homework for that day and then proceed to pack her school bag.  I let her pack her own schoolbag a few months after she entered Primary 1.  Her school is very strict when it comes to children forgetting to bring their books to school.  They get punished if they forget so Ashley is very careful and makes sure she pack everything correctly.  Kudos to the school for instilling a good practice.

After she’s done, it’s homework time.

I cannot help her much when it comes to Chinese homework, especially when it comes to making sentences in Chinese.  So she needs to  look up the words from the dictionary…

Cute Props For Birthday

A couple of days before Ashley’s birthday, I thought it would be fun to make some props since we were going to celebrate her birthday at the airport.  It was the day that we flew to Bangkok.  I found some nice printable photo booth party props at www.celebrations.com and printed them out.

I also printed out  a Number 8 and stick it on a toothpick to decorate her choc lava cake.

Bacon Egg Toast Cups For Father’s Day

Yesterday was Father’s Day and we celebrated with some Bacon Egg Toast Cups for dinner using my trusted Happy Call Pan 🙂  Here’s how I did them.

First I fry the bacon a bit

Then I put some butter on the metal cups.  They are cups which are used for making egg tarts.

Cut off the edges of the bread and pressed them a bit to flatten them.  Then cut the bread into half.

Arrange the bread around the cup, put in the bacon, break an egg and add a dash of pepper and some salt.  Close the lid and bake for about 5 mins.

The bacon egg toast cups are ready

I also found this cute craft printable online and I got Ashley to help do it for daddy

It is a DAD glasses which daddy wore but won’t allow his photo to be put in my blog 😀

How was your Father’s Day celebration?

my very first invitation

I was looking at some old photos in my photo album when I came across this invitation card which I have been keeping.    It was given to me by my classmate.  He invited me to his birthday party which was held in his house.

A very old and precious invitation card

It sure brings back sweet memories.  I remember going to his house with my mom and sister.  We were too shy to talk to each other at the party.  So funny right?  You know what?  Both of us are  still friends till today and this guy is also my hubby’s good buddy.

Drama on a Saturday evening

Ashley’s front tooth has been rather loose and it will be a matter of days before it falls off. On Saturday evening, it started bleeding profusely. I think Ashley could have moved it too much. I tried to pull it out but couldn’t. Maybe I didn’t try hard enough. Then I tried to stop the bleeding by asking her to bite on a piece of cotton but it didn’t stop either.  So we had a little drama on Saturday night.  We went around looking for dentists but they were all closed as it was already 6.30pm.  Hubs suggested that we go to a hospital and so we went to the A&E in Assunta Hospital.  Missy was very excited because she got to sit on the hospital bed and checked by the doctor.  I think those previous hospitalization stay didn’t terrify her.

Nurse Florence took a look at her tooth and pulled it out within seconds.  Then the doctor came to check her tooth and all is well.  I got a shocked when I went to the cashier to pay for the services.  Total bill came to only RM3.90 for medical record.  The doctor did not charge us anything.  How nice huh?  After paying, we went to the 7-11 store located inside the hospital and bought some chocolates for the doctor and Nurse Florence to thank them 🙂

Missy with one tooth less.

When she got home, she took out this little Tooth Fairy box which my dear friend gave her recently.

placed her tooth in the box

and she even wrote a very short note to the Tooth Fairy and placed them on her bed.  Missy received RM5 the next morning 🙂

School break ends

Can’t believe it that 2 weeks have wheezed by so quickly. Monday is back to the school for the kiddo already. Good that things are going to be back to the routine now but I am not liking the traffic jams on the roads.

Ashley has been going to the office with us daily. I bought some workbooks for her to do this holiday season to keep her occupied. She also spends time playing with her iPad a lot.  When she’s bored, she’ll try to amuse herself with silly things like below…

Busking at the office

Pretending to take down an order from the customer who called to enquire about paper products.

That’s my silly girl!

Shopping in Bangkok

This is a continuation of our holiday in Bangkok. We stayed in Arnoma Hotel which is very convenient.  It is situated opposite Central World and is about 500 meters walk to Platinum Mall.  We checked out Siam Paragon, Central World, Chatuchak, Asiatique and a few trips to Platinum Mall in 4 days.  We walked so much that at the end of the day, our legs were so tired and wobbly. Eventhough we had foot massages daily, that wasn’t enough to relieve our tired feet.  Besides getting a few pieces of apparel from Platinum Mall for myself, here’s what I got as well :-

Sneakers for Ashley from H&M

Necklaces (sorry for the blur photo)

Another pretty elaborate one

2 bracelets

Tom Yum and Green Curry noodles from Big C supermarket which is just next to our hotel.

My favourite baskets from Chatuchak.  If my luggage bag can fit more, I would have bought more baskets.

Besides some souvenirs, that’s all I bought in Bangkok.  Hope to go again very soon *wink*

Our Road Trip

So we decided to go on a road trip on Sunday eventhough we have barely recovered from our trip from Bangkok.  We left home at around 8.20 am to Malacca.  The journey was smooth and we reached at around 10 am.   Jonker street was already filled with tourists.  We walked along Jonker and checked out some shops selling clothes, pineapple tarts and Nyonya dumplings.

Ashley having a cup of fro-yo.  She didn’t want Durian ice-cream.

We also stopped to eat Chendol at one of the shops that wasn’t filled with tourists.  It was a very hot day and I put sunblock on Ashley before we ventured out.    At around noon time, we went around looking for Nyonya food but unfortunately, everywhere was packed.  We finally ate at a restaurant next to Hangout Hotel.  I didn’t jot down the name of the restaurant because we were hot and hungry.  We wanted to eat the usual Nyonya fare but sadly the owner said they were sold out.  Only available was chicken rice ball.

We had 15 rice balls between us – 3 adults and 1 child.

with a plate of mixed roast and steam chicken

After lunch, we walked further up after San Shu Gong and past a corner shop selling 3D Durian Ice. It was very good.  I think the shop name is EHA.

Can you see this long queue?  Everyone was queuing to have the Hainanese chicken rice ball at the Chop Chung Wah, the corner coffeeshop.  I think it’s just crazy.

We walked around and stumbled upon this Hello Kitty themed Home Sweet Home hotel.  I read it online that the rooms are lavishly decorated in Hello Kitty theme.

We left Malacca at around 2 plus but only reached home at 6pm.  There was a very bad traffic jam before Senawang and all the way to Nilai.  We exit Senawang to take the LEKAS highway to Cheras/Kajang but it was so far.  Sigh.  I think I would think twice about travelling to Malacca during public holidays that coincide with school break.

Fast Dinner At Home

After eating tom yum gong and noodles for a few days, we decided to have this for dinner last night.  I took out the sandwich maker and made some sandwiches.

Looks like a frog eh?

The ingredients for the sandwiches – ham, cheese and tomatoes

Put one slice of bread on the sandwich maker.  You can spread it with butter first. I forgot to do that.  Add a piece of ham and cheese on the bread.  Then followed by some tomatoes.  Put another slice of bread on top and close the lid.

All done after a few minutes when the light turned green

My simple ham and cheese sandwich for dinner.

On days when you do not know what to cook or do not even feel like making a sandwich, why not check out FoodPanda?  This online food delivery service has over 290 eateries listed on their website and all you need to do is enter your postcode, choose the restaurants that are near you and click away.

I know what to do now when I am craving for Starbucks Frappucino or Chili Crabs.  But sometimes I do prefer making a good old sandwich than getting food from here.
