During my recent trip to Penang with my besties, we had our first lunch at Restoran 77 Famous Curry Fish Head along Gurney Drive. It was an impromptu restaurant because some of us were shopping at the Gurney Paragon while waiting for the rest of them to arrive from Ipoh. While thinking of where to eat for lunch, one of the girls, who’s a local suggested that we walk to Restoran 77.
We were glad to have eaten there because the food was simply awesome and delicious! This restaurant has been around for over 30 years and according to reviews online, nothing much has changed from their recipes. The signboard and building look old and rundown but don’t be fooled by its look. It has a small seating area with 4 or 5 tables. This restaurant is air-conditioned and we were glad because it was a hot day especially after walking out from the mall to this place.
Restoran 77 is well known for its curry fish head. So of course we have to order it. This signature dish has a huge fish head cooked in flavourful curry sauce. So appetizing. We also ordered their belacan fried chicken, which in my opinion, is one of the best that I have eaten so far.
We also ordered a plate of fried green vege and mixed tofu dish.

So, if you’re in Penang and are looking for some delicious, homestyle meal, you may want to give Restoran 77 Famous Curry Fish Head a try. You can even take stroll along Gurney Bay, the new seaside promenade, after dinner which is just across the road from this restaurant.
