Monster Building Hong Kong

On the recent trip to Hong Kong, my sister suggested that we visit the Monster Building that is located at Quarry Bay. This place is actually a residential complex that consists of five goliath 19-storey tower blocks. It is one of the most Instagrammable places in Hong Kong.

We went out early and took the MTR to Quarry Bay station. Then we walked to King’s Road where the Monster Building is located. It was not easy to find as the facade of this structure looks different from what we have seen on social media. Google map kept telling us that we have reached the place but we could not see anything that resembles the Monster Building. After walking up and down the same street, we decided to venture into one of the side lanes (right outside a shop that sells pork) and stepped into the courtyard.

This is the facade of the Monster Building that is filled with air conditioners, laundry and metal awnings.

Once we entered the courtyard, this is how the Monster Building looks like. The 5 imposing tower blocks that are densely populated is a sight to behold. It is reported that there are approximately 10,000 people living in this place. The ground floor was wet and I supposed this is due to the water dripping from the airconditioners.

There are 2 courtyards within these buildings where residents spend time to take a breather or play mahjong. We didn’t catch anyone doing that when we were there because we reached there at around 10am. We did see some tourists trying to get their best shot. There is even a % Arabica outlet on the ground floor and we had some coffee before we left.

I was trying to imagine how it looks like in the apartment. Is it small? How many people are staying in one unit? The Monster Building is a must-visit if you are going to Hong Kong. I actually enjoy walking there after exiting the MTR station. There is a morning market nearby and many little shops that sell cakes, breads, food, etc.

So recently, one of my friends went to Bangkok for a holiday. She came back with some gifts for me.

Chang Jiang White Coffee Ipoh

On my recent trip back to my hometown, Ipoh, my family and I finally visited the famous Chang Jiang White Coffee outlet that is located at 7, Jalan Windsor, 30250 Ipoh, Perak. This outlet is their first and it is situated in a charming old house that exudes an old school vibe. There were rooms that look like the bedrooms in this outlet and it is not surprising since it used to be someone’s house.

After ordering on the order chit, customers have to proceed to the counter to make payment. There is one section next to the cashier that is filled with their house brand’s coffee in a packets (3-in-1 and 2-in-1) and also their lemon tea.

I had their kopi c kosong (means coffee with milk and no sugar) while hubs and brother-in-law had the ice coffee. Their coffee is thick and aromatic. The ice coffee were served in mugs and there were two tall glasses/jars filled with ice.

You have to pour the coffee into the glass jars yourself and drink from there.

So fun right?

They also ordered the Kaya Butter Toast but I forgot to snap a pic. The Hainanese bread were filled with sticks of premium salted butter and a nice slather of fragrant kaya on toasted Hainanese bread.

I had this braised tofu, chicken leg and hard boiled eggs. It was quite yummy.

Their specialty is the dark soy sauce noodles topped with minced chicken and fried shallots, a traditional dish has been around for 100 years. We didn’t order that as everyone was already full from lunch earlier.

Chang Jiang White Coffee is a nice place to indulge in traditional coffee, tea and kaya butter toast. This place has a long queue so it is best to go early.

What Keep Her Company

When she was growing up, missy did not have many furry toys as she was allergic to dust mites and she constantly had runny nose. Her immune system is stronger now and has outgrown that. In the recent years, she has suddenly developed a love for these soft toys. She has been filling her room with furry toys and you should see her bedroom. There are like 7 plushies on her bed and they leave her with a narrow space to sleep on but she does not mind.

Now that she has moved to her dorm, missy has been filing her bed with some plushies too. Check them out below.

They are gifts from her friends and the only one that she bought herself is that pink bear. The latest addition to her collection is the Hello Kitty plushies that me and sisters walked till our legs went numb in Hong Kong just to search for Hello Kitty stuff. She is still on the hunt for more and I hope she won’t fill up the bed in her dorm with too many plushies.
