Celebrating Dad’s Birthday

My dad turned 80 last Friday and we all celebrated his birthday at his favorite restaurant – Noble Mansion. As usual, we ordered his favorite dishes and they are Peking Duck, Portuguese Suckling Pig, Braised Cod Fish, Stir Fry Mixed Vegetable With Macadamia Nuts and Braised Tofu. Food was delicious. Below are the photos of the food we had that night.

The Peking duck was turned into 3 types of dishes. First, the crispy skin are served with thin pancakes, julienned cucumber, scallions and dipped into hoisin sauce. Some meat are taken out and stir fried with longevity noodles while the bigger pieces of the duck are served on a plate for eating just like that.

We ordered the Longevity Buns for this special occasion. They are mini bao with mung bean fillings and are super soft. There are more mini baos hiding underneath the large one. How cute is that!

My sister also ordered the classic Nancy Chong cake all the way from Ipoh. This cake is super sweet and we could only eat a small slice.

In order to add some festive air, I got these balloons from Noko to decorate the private room in the restaurant. Couldn’t find the alphabet ‘T & H” so we have to put up ’80’ with them.

Presents For Us

This is a backdated post. I was supposed to write this a few months back but I have been busy with work and everything else.

So missy had a few months break before starting her college and she decided to work part-time at a pharmacy. She wanted to buy a tablet for college so she decided to work and save up money for it. She didn’t have any working experience before so it was not a pleasant working life for her. She made mistakes and was reprimanded by the manager many times. It was stressful for her but she persevered and completed the 3 months working there so that she can have enough money for the tablet.

Besides getting that, she also bought gifts for me and hubs. We were surprised when she handed the gifts to us. So touched by her thoughtfulness. Missy got me a tote bag and got her dad a Nike cap. She actually asked her aunt to order these items for her.

A New Chapter For Her

I have been busy preparing for missy’s moving in to the dorm for the past week or so. Her foundation course started at the end of April and she has been taking the free bus service provided by the uni daily to get home. The uni bus would send students and staff to the LRT station and missy would take the train back. She planned to do this for her foundation year but the commute is long and takes up a lot of her time. So we have decided to let her move to the dorm. Yes, I am cutting the apron string slowly and letting go. The house is quieter now when she is not around. Missy comes back every weekend so we still get to spend time together.

Some of the bags of stuff for the move. They are mainly toiletries, kettle, jug, utensils, snacks and etc.

More cleaning stuff.

I guess our routine now would be sending her back every Sunday and me cooking some food like pastas, noodles, fried rice, etc. in the morning for her to bring back to the dorm as dinner for a couple of nights.
