Korean BBQ Is The Best

Besides kimchi jiggae, my family and I love Korean BBQ, thanks to my addiction to K-dramas. There is just something about eating grilled meat wrap with lettuce and dipping into the tantalizing ssamjang (dipping sauce) and gireum jang (sesame oil and salt). These sauces will give your mouth an explosion of flavours as they enrich the taste of the grilled meat.

We love indulging in an endless supply of deliciously marinated pork belly together with unlimited supply of banchan. Our favourite go-to Korean BBQ restaurants is Sae Mae Eul. We have been trying out different branches in KL for their for their all-you-can-eat bbq. The price range is between RM32+ to RM37+ per pax.

Different branches will offer different banchan. The best we have tried so far is the Sae Mae Eul in Kuchai Lama. There is free-flow of ice-cream included which hubs and missy enjoy. Other branches do not offer free ice-cream. The most un-friendly Sae Mae Eul branch is the one in Sri Petaling. There is limited banchan and we have to pay for drinking water. At other branches, water is free.

Look at the variety of pork and chicken that are marinated with delicious flavours that coat the tongue.

The delicious aroma from the grill fills your nostrils and the taste will transport me straight to Korea. Mashita!

New Jeans x McDonald’s Meal Collab

The new South Korean girl group NewJeans is highly popular all over the world. This successful teen K-Pop group’s songs have been dominating the music chart since they debuted 12 months ago. So who is NewJeans? This South Korean girl group is from the music label ADOR and their lineup consists of five members, namely Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein.

NewJeans have been coming out with danceable beats that are borrowed from hip-hop and R&B, while their outfits are following the Y2K trend. NewJeans brings a fresh vibe to this nostalgic trend. Following in the success of BTS meal collaboration with McDonald’s, NewJeans has also partnered with McDonald’s to introduce special packaging for an exclusive chicken menu. OMG!

For Malaysia, there are three new menu items that are available for a limited time only: Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger (RM9.95), Seaweed McShaker Fries, and Spicy Crispy Chicken Wrap (RM10.90) that you can get with hashbrowns (RM12.55). This was released on 7th September 2023. Not sure if they are still available now.

On the special packaging for the meals and drinks, McDonald’s iconic “M” logo in yellow is interspersed with the adorable pixel-style artwork of fries, burgers, and NewJeans’ signature bunny mascot to commemorate the collab.

As missy is a big fan of NewJeans, it is only natural that she wanted to get her hands on the packaging. As she was still at her dorm when the collab was released, she ordered McDonald’s grab delivery for lunch. Alas, she did not get the NewJeans x McDonald’s packaging because she did not know that she has to order the special menu. She was a bit disappointed and since hubs and I went to pick her up that evening, we decided to head to the nearest McDonald’s for dinner.

Missy was happy to see this huge poster of her favourite K-pop band and quickly took a photo with it.

Since we ate-in, we thought that we could get the NewJeans packaging but again there was none. So I requested from the McDonald’s staff to please give us the paper bag and paper cup as that was the 2nd time we (missy) had McD’s but did not get the NewJeans packaging. Missy was too shy to ask from the staff so the mom got to step in. The accommodating staff gave us these.

So where are these items now? Sitting on missy’s table gathering dust.

Sweet Surprise With Sugar Free Mooncakes Or Keto Mooncakes

The mid-autumn festival or lantern festival falls on this Friday, 29th November 2023. Two days ago, I was salivating at some keto mooncakes I saw on Facebook. It didn’t help that my sister gifted us a box of the famous Ming Yue mooncake from Ipoh, for hubs and missy earlier this month. As they were not keto, I didn’t eat any.

I have not had any mooncakes for a while as the keto ones are usually not cheap and I do not want to pay so much for them. The last time when I had keto mooncakes was in 2021. I thought that this year, I would just look at them from my computer screen but the universe has other plans, well in this case, it’s my sisters’ plan. The mid-autumn festival this year has just became merrier for me.

Right after I saw the keto mooncakes in a Keto group on Facebook, I received a surprise delivery at the office and when I opened the package, I saw this.

It is a box of 4 keto mooncakes – 2 Golden Yolk and 2 Jade Yolk

I unwrapped the keto Jade yolk mooncake right away.

The first bite was simply amazing. In my opinion, it tasted just like the regular mooncake but without the sugar. The crust soft and the ‘lotus paste’ is not dry and has a nice texture. I am not sure how the baker made the paste though. The baker, LF Tan listed the following ingredients:-

1. Golden yolk

(Net carb per pc. 3.6)

Ingredients: almond flour, coconut flour, eggs, butter, peanut paste, allulose, melon seeds and salted egg yolk

2. Jade yolk

(Net carb per pc 3.6)

Ingredients: almond flour, coconut flour, eggs, butter, peanut paste, allulose, salted egg yolk, melon seeds and home made pandan extract.

This Is Why I Am Broke

I love shopping and if you have been reading my blog, you would have come across some posts that I wrote about my shopping adventure at the market in my neighbourhood? There are a few stalls that sell branded clothes for less. Actually there are 2 stalls that sell clothing brands like H&M, Monki, New Look, Mango, Zara and other American and European brands. These stalls get their supply from clothing factories in Bangladesh that sell stock overrun. The factories manufacture clothes for all the above brands and when they have surplus or past season clothes, they sell them to buyers from Malaysia and other countries. All these clothes are new and 100% genuine.

Then there is another stall that imports sports bras, leggings and shorts from factories in China. Like the factories in Bangladesh, the ones in China also manufacture for brands like Gymshark, Max Fashion, Thirdlove, Victoria Secret and more. As a shopaholic, I have a keen eye for spotting these type of clothing. I am hoping that later on, the stall owner may get his hands on some Lululemon *chuckle*. Besides shopping for clothes, I have been buying sports bras and leggings for missy, myself, my sisters and also my friends. I just cannot resist because they are so cheap and good quality.

My shopping did not stop there. Recently this stall has new wire-free bras and since I have switched to wearing non wired bras, I have been stocking up. I will share them in my next post.
