Something Sweet Today

I just want to record this down in my blog.  Around lunch time today, I received a WhatsApp message from missy.

After reading the message, I went “awwwwww“.  It took me by surprise.  Although we sometimes end our text messages with “Love You”, we hardly say words like ‘I am thankful or I am grateful’ to each other.

Guess what is her reply to my question?  “It’s for her coursework.  She is doing Social Intelligence at that time and they students are to tell the people they love just how much they mean to them.  So missy whatsapped me, hubs, her aunts and her cousin.  She did put many giggling emoticons after the messages.  Silly girl! Nevertheless, I am glad that she is learning lessons such as this in school.

How Many Cups Of Coffee Do You Drink A Day?

I love coffee and it is a drink that I cannot do without.  The smell of coffee is so inviting and coffee is the only thing that get me up and feeling like I can do anything.  It gives me the boost I need to stay focused and energized.  Coffee is my pick-me-up and keeps me fueled throughout the day.

I need my coffee first thing in the morning and sometimes another cup after lunch.  I also crave for coffee after dinner and yes, I can still sleep after having my coffee.  So you can see that I can drink up to 3 cups a day.

Yesterday I was out with my family and had a cup of cappuccino during lunch.  Then later, I had another cup after walking around 1 Mont Kiara.  During dinner, we were in Publika and I happened to see Zus Coffee’s new outlet there.  Since they just opened yesterday, Zus Coffee was having a Buy 1 Get 1 Free promo and of course I had to buy it.  I shared the cappuccino with my sister.   I love Zus Coffee’s new cup design.  I think it is to celebrate the Holy month of Ramadan.

Nice blue huh?

So, are you a coffee drinker?  How many cups do you need to drink in a day?

My Blogging Journey

I started blogging when Ashley was about 3 years old.  Now, she is 16 years old. I cannot believe that I have been blogging for over 13 years *gasp*.  I created my website using Blogspot with the intention of keeping a ‘diary’ on all the milestones that Ashley has achieved as well as writing about my parenting journey.  I was a stay-at-home mother looking after a toddler and although I enjoyed staying home and spending time with my daughter, I felt lonely and miserable.  I had no goal, no career and no friends.

Writing a blog has changed my life. Blogging was a form of therapy for me.  Writing down my thoughts made me feel better.  Besides that, I made a lot of friends with other bloggers who are mothers over the years and we connected through our experiences and sharing our ups and downs.  As a matter of fact, some of them have become my best friends now.

After about a year into blogging, I discovered that I can make money through blogging.  I was introduced to paid posts collaboration by another blogger.  And as they say, the rest is history.   I joined several companies in the US that connect bloggers with marketers and I was making between $500 to $800 a month.  It was a lot of money to me as I was not working and the money I earned through blogging allowed me to splurge on some things for my family.   I looked forward to writing paid posts and even created a few websites just to make money online.  I had websites on entertainment, fashion and home decor.  Things slowed down between 2011 to 2014 and I was getting fewer jobs online.  I even shut down 2 of my websites.  Today, I still get offers from local and international advertisers whether they are posts that I have to write myself or guest post collaboration.

The online world is still growing and there are many ways to make money through social media such as through blog, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube videos and Pinterest.   In the past, companies would seek out celebrities to advertise their products or services but now, businesses are enlisting influencers and bloggers to spread the word.  Influencer marketing is important in building brand relationships with people.   It involves collaborating with popular or relevant influencers/bloggers who are often real-life consumers to promote the brand and increase awareness.  This type of marketing works because it uses the power of social media and word-of-mouth strategy.  The recommendations by influencers are often highly regarded by their followers.  People are more likely to trust their peers, friends as well as people they admire more than the companies selling the products and services.

Although my focus is now into monetizing my blog, I still write about my family, places that we have visited, things that I love doing such as crafts and shopping, and more to connect with my readers. When I have more time on my hand I would like to create another website to focus mainly on fashion and beauty or perhaps the keto way of eating which I am following now.  There are many famous and successful social media influencers who blog full-time and built a huge following.  They really inspire me to focus on writing what I am passionate about and how to be a well-rounded social media expert.

So if you are interested in blogging and monetizing your blog or becoming a social media influencer, you can start by creating your own blog or social media platform.  Choose a niche that you are interested in, create useful content about it and and build your social media profile.  Remember that you cannot expect to become an influencer overnight. This is a process that takes time and effort before you can see the results.

My Naughty Furbaby

Cooper dislikes cats and critters.  He acts swiftly if he spots any cats or squirrels while taking his walk around the neighbourhood.  Once he was walking past a bush and sniffing away so we thought he was just doing his usual thing.  To our horror, he just zoomed in and grabbed a cat out from the bush. I screamed so loudly that he let go of the cat.  Thank God the cat was ok and ran away.

The cheeky boy resting in the living room.

I spotted this dead bird on the porch a few days ago.  No price for guessing who did it.  Cooper gets really annoyed when the birds go near his bowl of rice every time.  He would chase them away and I guess this little fella was too late.  May you rest in peace little one.

Something Weird Is Going On

I have been noticing a pattern happening to me.  I can be thinking about something in my head and next thing you know, I see the same thing flashed before me.  Here is one example.

I was walking around at Pavillion last week and saw this fashion brand called COS.  I walked past the boutique and thought to myself, “Oh, I didn’t know COS is available in Malaysia”.   Later that day, when I was scrolling Facebook, guess what?  Cosstores ad popped up.  I quickly took a screenshot.

Can Facebook read my mind?

The second example is this – I was chatting with my friends on Whatsapp and one of them was telling me about pigmentation on her face and etc.  Then later that day, I saw an ad on Facebook on pigmentation.  Coincidence?  Can Facebook ‘read’ what we wrote on Whatsapp?

The next example was really bizarre.  I was whatsapping missy and asked what she would like to have for dinner last Sunday.  I asked if she would like to go to Down To Bones, a restaurant nearby for dinner.  Guess what again?  Later that night, I saw Down To Bones ad on Facebook!  I have never seen their ads before.

Does Facebook have bots that crawl our phones and find what we are talking about and then show us ads on the same topic so that we will click on them? C’est très bizarre!  What is going on here?  Is this the work of the Universe?

How To Have Keto Curry Noodles

When I have cravings for curry noodles, what I do is buy a packet of curry noodles from the shop without any noodles.  I would tell them to give me everything except the noodles.  The usual stall that I buy from is used to my order and knows what to do.

Then when I get home, I would cook a packet of the Shirataki Oat Fiber Noodles and mix them with the curry I bought.

So satisfying and my craving is fulfilled.  I really enjoy eating these shirataki oat fiber noodles compared to the konjac shirataki noodles.  Their texture and taste are almost the same as noodles.  If you are on low carb or keto, you can give this noodle a try.

Branded Clothes For A Steal

It has been a while since I wrote about the branded clothes that I have been buying at the market in my neighbourhood.  If you have not read my earlier posts, do click here and here.

Just a recap, there is a stall that brings in clothes from factories in Bangladesh. These factories produce clothes for brand names like H&M, Monki, Zara, Mango, Kiabi, American Eagle, Esprit, New Look, Cheap Monday and many other brands from Europe.  All these clothes are brand new and in good condition.  They are probably overruns or past season designs. I have been shopping nonstop for myself and missy.   I would visit this stall a few times a week and there are bound to be new clothes for sale.  My latest buy is these 2 for missy:-

A shirt dress from Monki (RM15)

This is a jumpsuit from American Eagle (RM20)

What a steal right?  Missy wore this jumpsuit recently and it fits her perfectly.  Where else can one buy an American Eagle outfit for RM20?

When we were in H&M recently and missy saw a lovely top for sale at RM70.  She asked me if I can get a similar one from this stall at the market *chuckle*.   She knows that this stall is a gem. I have been buying her H&M hoodies for RM20 from this stall last year.  The same hoodies were selling for RM70-RM100 at H&M.  I love a good bargain!

How To Raise Financial Savvy Kids In A Digital Era

When I was young, my grandmother and my parents always told my siblings and I that we should study hard, get a good job and remember to save our money for rainy days. My parents strongly believe that through hard work and a good education we can achieve our dreams.  When it comes to money, we should not spend all that we have.  Whatever allowances we received, we should save for the things we want and also save some for emergencies.

Learning how to save our money is a good habit and is the basics of building our wealth.  I have been giving the same advice to Ashley that my parents and grandmother gave me.  Instilling the good habit of saving money from a young age is important.  It teaches goal-setting, planning and discipline.

Yesterday, Ashley and I were invited to join the webinar by Hong Leong Bank Berhad titled “Raising DuitSmart Kids in a Digital Era”.  A responsible financial institution, Hong Leong Bank aims to engage and empower children and parents with age-appropriate money management skills and offer technical tools to support them. By leveraging interactive digital tools, DuitSmart is created to help Malaysians achieve their financial goals by making financial knowledge easy and simple for everyone.

Parents who want to give their children an early headstart on financial knowledge can open a 3-In-1 Junior Account with Hong Leong Bank.  This is the only junior account that comes with a savings account offering up to 2.50% interest per year, a reloadable debit card and a high-interest FD account.  Children below the age of 18 are eligible for 3-in-1 Junior Account.  This account also comes with a fun and interactive way to help parents teach their children smart money management.   Once your child has opened the 3-In-1 Junior Account, they can download the HLB Pocket Connect App which is the first pocket money app in Malaysia.

On the HLB Pocket Connect App, parents can assign housework or tasks and get your children to complete them to earn extra pocket money. This will teach your children that money does not grow on trees.  Besides doing housework, you can also use this app to motivate them to study hard or do something nice for others and award them with money.

When the children see the money that they earn, they can use it to buy the things they want with the HLB Junior Debit Card.  This way, they will learn how to manage their money responsibly.  For your information, the money that they will be spending is only from the pocket money they earn and they will not be able to use the money that you have put into their savings account.

Parents can also monitor how their children manage their pocket money via Hong Leong Connect.  You can also top up the balance and set a spending limit as well as freezing and stopping lost cards instantly.   With HLB 3-in-1 Junior Account, your children will learn to earn, spend and save responsibly.

Ashley is very interested in this account and has asked me to open the 3-In-1 Junior Account for her so that she can have a debit card and learn how to manage her money.

How To Set Open A 3-In-1 Junior Account?

Parents can submit the application online and HLB’s Deposit Relationship Manager will meet you personally to help you open the account (available at selected location only).  Or if you may open the account at any Hong Leong Bank Berhad branch.

For a limited time only, when you open an HLB 3-iin-1 Junior Savings Account, you will receive a Shopee Voucher worth RM38.  So hurry and kickstart your child’s journey to earn, spend and save responsibly.

The right foundation of financial education will help children to be financially savvy.  This will shape their understanding for years to come.

Fashion Style From The K-Drama Vincenzo

I have been watching K-dramas since the first MCO (Movement Control Order) started in March last year.  It is one of the ways for me to de-stress. I became hooked after watching Crash Landing On You.   I really enjoy the K-dramas storyline and the superb acting skills of the actors and actresses.  I also love the swoon-worthy fashion from Crash Landing On You, Itaewon Class, The World of the Married and Love (ft. Marriage & Divorce).

Right now I am watching the highly anticipated Vincenzo, a drama about a Korean-Italian lawyer and mafia consigliere.  The actor played by Song Joong-ki is always looking sharp in power suits and classy watches.  The lead actress, Jeon Yeo Bin who played the feisty lawyer Hong Cha Young did not disappoint as well.  She has been spotted in an array of polished designer outfits and trendy accessories.  Check them out below.

I have only watched until Episode 6 and I am hooked.  Will definitely binge-watch Vincenzo this weekend. Can’t wait to see more fashionable clothes that lawyer Hong Cha Young will be wearing.  Are you a K-drama fan too?

A Visit To Don Don Donki In Lot 10

Since this week is a one-week school break for missy, I decided to take a day off and brought her to downtown and visit Don Don Donki in Lot 10.  Don Don Donki is a popular discount chain store in Japan and also the largest one.  This huge chain store has over 160 stores across Japan and is filled with Japanese snacks, food items, beverages, groceries like raw beef, seafood, fruits, beauty products and clothes.

We have never been to Japan so I don’t know how popular Don Don Donki is.  Another reason why we went to check out this store is because I discovered that there is a section selling all things Kimetsu No Yaiba (Demonslayer).  As missy is into Anime now and she loves Kimetsu No Yaiba very much, I thought it would be nice for her to check out the things there.
Missy asked her friend to come along and the 3 of us took the LRT train downtown. We started our journey at 9am and reached the Hang Tuah Station at about 9.30am.  Then we switched to the MRT and got off at Bukit Bintang Station which is just next to Lot 10.  Once we reached Lot 10, we realized that we have to go up to the 3rd floor to enter Don Don Donki.  There were news about people who had to queue up from the ground floor all the way to the 3rd floor to enter.  We were glad that it only took us about 15 mins to queue up.
The first section we saw was the Kimetsu No Yaiba merchandise which is on the left of the entrance.  I didn’t take any photos of that section.  The items consist of keychains, soft toys, posters and more.

The items are not cheap and missy bought a keychain for her friend as a birthday gift.  She did not get anything for herself.
I did not get to browse longer at the beauty section as the crowd was starting to come in.  I managed to get a Biore sunblock (RM19) which is a good price.  We went downstairs and check out more food items.
Check out the price of the Coke Zero
Colourful Nissin noodles
All kinds of coffee
More coffee
Saw this Instant Clam / Shell Fish soup that cost RM7 I think.  Was tempted to buy but in the end, I didn’t.
So neatly packed.  Just add hot water to cook the soup.
Our loot from Don Don Donki that day.  Instant Miso Soup paste, Biore sunblock, a container of anchovies/almond snack and a Kimetsu No Yaiba badge (not in the picture). I paid RM2 for the shopping bag.  Plastic bags are given for free.  One cool thing about shopping there is after the payment is made, the cashier does not put your items into the shopping bags.  You can pack them yourself or if you need help, you can bring all the items to the packing area which is near the exit and their staff will help you to pack everything in.  This is to reduce the waiting session at the cashier counters.
My friend who visited Don Don Donki on the opening day bought this Horse Oil for me.  It was selling for RM23 which is cheaper than what I paid for in Isetan last year.  This is a good buy.   After Don Don Donki, we walked over to Pavillion for some shopping.  The mall was not packed at all.
