Jewelry Trend You Will Be Seeing This Fall

If you are already thinking ahead about your fall wardrobe and what you will be wearing in the coming months, you are not alone. The current pandemic has changed the way we think about fashion trends and the way we dress up. Many of us are still working from home and attending zoom video calls and meetings.  These calls are not going anywhere soon. So, why not try to look our best and make the days a little less monotonous and a little more exciting? There are ways to jazz up your daily dress-up routine. We can put on a little make up and add a new accessory that is sure to standout.

Waist-up dressing offers a fresh way to smarten up an outfit. There are plenty of cool Zoom-worthy pieces that are coming up this fall.  Check them out below:-

Layering Necklaces

Fall fashion is synonym with texture and layering.  When it comes to jewelry, it is safe to play around with layer necklaces like delicate name necklace chains, pendant necklaces altogether.  Layering charms and chains create a look that is entirely personal.  It is all about mixing charms with necklaces to amp up their significance.   People are gravitating towards symbols, names, tiny initials or words that honor a loved one.  Time to let the jewelry do that talking with engraved mantra or inspirational words.  This pendant necklace can be worn with another shorter name necklace to create a layer style.

Charmed bracelets were everywhere this summer and they show no sign of slowing down. The return of the quirky, kitschy summertime trends takes inspiration from the ’80s friendship trend and adds a playful vibe to your outfits.

Another stylish way to enhance your personal style during those video calls is to wear a pair of earrings.  From simple classic hoops to statement earrings set and mix and match studs, there are many ways to dress up your ears.  Just stack ’em up and you are good to go.

Hoop earrings are once again in the spotlight because they are easy to wear, accessible and versatile. Hoops are timeless and universally flattering.  They are the one style of jewelry that complements every face shape.

Malaysian Sakura Season In August

While I was out for my exercise over the weekend, I spotted big patch of pink colour on the road from afar.  As I got closer, I realized that they were the pink flowers aka Malaysian Sakura that have fallen from the Tecoma tree (tabebuia rosea trees).  These trees are also known as  “tissue paper trees” by the locals because of the texture and thin petals of the flowers.

I remember some time in March this year when the Tecoma trees were in full bloom, many people were sharing photos of the beautiful ‘sakura’ all over their social media.  I hope to see the beautiful Tecoma trees in full bloom soon.  I just realized that there were a few of these trees in my neighbourhood and they bear pink, white and orange flowers.

Easy Chicken Pot Pie At Home

I love Tik Tok because it is very entertaining.  I enjoy watching the dance routines, the workouts as well as the fashion tips.  Besides all these, I also enjoy the cooking tips that Tik Tokers share on this platform.

I often save these videos under my favorites and when I am out of ideas what to cook, I would check them out.  Not too long ago, I saw this easy chicken pot pie baking video on Tik Tok and decided to give it a try.  The person who did the video used Kawan Paratha as the puff pastry for the dough but I used the pastry from Bake With Yen.

My way is super easy as I used instant Campbell chicken soup.  I dilute the soup sachet with a cup of hot water.  Then pour them into the ramekins and added slices of ham and mixed vegetables.

Brushed the top and outside edges of each bowl with the egg wash.

Bake them in the oven for 30 minutes at 180 degree Celscius.

Here are the easy chicken pot pies for missy and hubs.  Maybe I should call mine Ham Pot Pies and I did not add any chicken meat in them.

K-Drama Made Me Do It

I have been writing about how much I love my K-dramas ever since I watched my first K-drama – Crash Landing On You during the first Movement Control Order in March 2020.  There was no turning back!  I have watched many since then and not only that, I have been cooking my favourite Budae Jiggae, Korean Pancake for missy and more.

Not too long ago, I just bought these from Shopee.

The popular noodle golden pot for cooking and eating Ramyeon and the Ttukbaegi, an earthenware for steaming Gyeranjjim (계란찜), Korean Steam Egg.

I cannot help it after watching a couple of K-dramas such as Reply 1988 and Hospital Playlist where the actors or actresses cooked ramyeon with the pot and then using the lid as a plate.  This is done so that the broth would not drip onto the clothes while slurping the noodles.

Below are some scenes from Hospital Playlist Season 2.

Cooking in process.

Eating the ramyeon on the lid.  This makes the noodle tastier I guess *chuckle*

Do you see how much K-drama has influenced me? I have cooked my budae jiggae using the golden pot and eating from it.  Will cook ramyeon for missy one of these days.  I still have not steamed the eggs using the earthenware yet.  I have tried it once with a regular bowl but it just doesn’t taste the same. I had lots of steamed eggs when I was in Seoul 2 years back.  If I have a chance to visit Seoul again, I will want to try out more food, especially the street food. Can’t believe I went to Korea before I watched any K-dramas.

Things That Make Me Happy

I love air plants and when I saw these little babies on Concretus, I knew I just have to get my hands on them.  The air plants and the minimalist-looking holders are lovely.  At the moment, they are sitting on my tv stand as I am not sure where to put them out in the porch.  I am worried that Sheldon may bit them and damage the holders.

Probably I should find out if air plants are okay indoors.

Looking at them makes me happy 😉

Concretus has a range of cool plant holders, pots and trays that are aesthetically pleasing. If you are looking to spruce up your room or a unique gift for that special someone, check them out today.

How To Bake Your Own Keto Pizza

Ever since I discovered the pizza crust from Bake With Yen and have been baking pizzas at home for the family, I find myself craving for keto pizza.  I have not had any pizzas ever since I started the keto lifestyle 4 years ago.

When my sister found out that Carbless sells their keto pizza crust at Big Grocer in Publika, she bought them for me to try.  A packet of keto pizza base from Carbless consists of 4 pieces and they are frozen.  The pizza base looks more like a big piece of tortilla wrap.

I baked my own keto pizza last night. I added some leftover roast chicken, capsicum, tomatoes, tomato paste and mozzarella cheese onto the base.  Then I put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 150 degrees Celscius.

Here is my thin crust keto pizza from Carbless. It was tasty and filling for me.

I Have Finally Taken My First Dose Of Covid Vaccine

This is a backdated post.  I have taken my first dose of covid vaccine about 2 weeks ago at Universiti Malaya.  I was part of those who registered for Astra Zeneca when it was opened for registration the 2nd time.  I still remember the frustrating process of trying to register.  I sat in front of my laptop for over an hour and also using my mobile phone at the same time.  I couldn’t get past the selection of venue for the registration and my laptop just hang.  No matter how many times I refreshed the screen, the same problem occurred.  The vaccine website cannot support over a million users on its website trying to register at that time.  A few people tried to help me that day.  My friends, my sisters and my cousin.

Needless to say, I was disappointed that I couldn’t register while everyone I know got them.  Miraculously, after 2 days when I checked out the MySejahtera app, I saw my vaccine appointment. I was over the moon. I think my sister somehow managed to help me register on that day although the website hang after she has clicked Submit.  She selected UM as the venue for me.

Ok, back to my vaccination that took place on the 13th of July 2021.  The process was smooth although it took me about over an hour.  There were many people that day but the process moved real fast.  There were 2 stations for verification before I reached the vaccination booth.  I wasn’t allowed to take any photos or videos of my jab at that time.  The doctor/nurse showed me the syringe before she inserted the needle onto my left arm. I watched the whole process as I wanted to make sure that I got the vaccination after reading so many horror stories of people being vaccinated with empty syringe. I couldn’t even feel anything on my arm *chuckle*

Now comes the side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine.  I started to feel a bit cold the next morning. Then I felt warm and checked the temperature.  I was having low grade fever so I popped a Panadol.  After 6 hours, I took another Panadol and another one just before bed.  I drank lots of water and also coconut water.  The fever was gone the next day.  I did not feel any body ache or joint ache.  Instead I felt fatigue even till today, when I exert too much energy, I feel tired.

I have not been working out too much and only went for a walk last weekend.  Been taking essence of chicken and Vit C to build up my immune system.  My 2nd dose will be 9 weeks later and I cannot wait to be fully vaccinated!

Sex And The City Reboot Fashion Moments

I am so glad that Sex and The City will be doing a reboot.  I love this popular series and often glued to the tele to watch it back in the 90s.  I love the storyline, the fashion and those the one-liners.  Named “And Just Like That”, the highly anticipated SATC reboot has started filming about a week ago in New York City.

Sex and the City Reboot Guide to Release Date, Cast News, and Spoilers

Image from Harper’s Bazaar

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kirsten Davis and Cynthia Nixon are reprising their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes respectively.  Kim Cattrall who played the unapologetic Samantha Jones will not be in the reboot. That’s a bummer eh?  I love Samantha Jones. I was telling my friends that without this character, Sex and The City should just be known as “and The City”.

So I just had to do what I had to do. I photoshopped Samantha Jones into this picture.

There is no date on when the reboot will be released so I am just going to follow up on news about the filming in the meantime to catch a glimpse of the fashionable outfits these ladies will be wearing.  Below are some of the photos which I saw online.

How To DIY Dry Shampoo With Only 3 Ingredients

I have rather fine hair and an oily scalp.  This only means one thing – flat hair. I have to wash my hair daily or else my hair will be oily and limp.  Having an oily scalp is genetic as my dad has this problem too and so do my siblings.  The only way to make my hair less oily is to have permed hair.  Somehow, after I started perming my hair, I do not experience too much oil on the scalp and I do not have to wash my hair that frequently. Sadly, missy has gotten this gene from me as well.

Washing one’s hair daily can also make the hair look flat.  Missy has long hair and the daily hair wash is not that good for her. So I googled for a solution and discovered how to make your own dry shampoo.  By using dry shampoo, she doesn’t have to wash her hair daily and can do it on alternate days.  On the day that she does not wash her hair, she can use the dry shampoo to absorb the oil.

Here is the step-by-step tutorial on how to DIY Dry Shampoo which I found on the internet.

Dry Shampoo for Light Hair
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup baking soda
5-10 drops essential oil (e.g. pink grapefruit, lavender, etc.)

Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup cocoa
5-10 drops essential oil (e.g. pink grapefruit, lavender, etc.)

The ingredients I used – Baking Soda, Corn starch and Doterra Lavender Essential Oil.

Mix the baking soda and cornstarch together.  Add a few drops of essential oil for a sweet smell.

How To Use The DIY Dry Shampoo (steps taken from the internet)

  • Dip your makeup brush into the dry shampoo.
  • Dab the brush along your roots. You may look like you have grey hair, but don’t worry, it will come out.
  • Let it sit for a couple of minutes to absorb the oil and then brush out. Style as usual.

Have a try if you also have an oily scalp.  It works for me and missy.

How To Make Your Own Pizza At Home

I was shopping at Bake With Yen a few weeks ago and came across their pizza crust for sale.  I bought a packet for the pizza lovers at home.  This pack of pizza crust costs RM7.90 and has 6 pieces.

Took out a piece of pizza crust.

Brush on tomato paste, added in herbs, capsicum, cherry tomatoes and slices of chicken ham.  Lastly, I sprinkled the pizza with cheddar and mozzarella cheese which I bought from Bake With Yen as well.  Put it in the oven for 15 mins at 200 degrees Celsius.

Tadaa, here is the pizza baked from home using the pizza crust from Bake With Yen.  It is so convenient to bake our own pizza, thanks to Bake With Yen, especially on days that I don’t know what to cook anymore.  Best of all, it is delicious according to the pizza eaters at home.
