Been feeling anxious and restless seeing the high number of cases every day. I guess shopping calms my nerves or maybe I just can’t stop shopping. Actually, I have lost a few pairs of shoes because I didn’t get a chance to wear them during the numerous lockdowns and when I finally wore them, the shoes just came apart.

Check out what happened during Christmas Eve. Then just before Chinese New Year, I wanted to bring one of my favorite heels to Ipoh so I tested it by wearing the pair of shoes out and you know what? The straps came off. This is of course upsetting. Darn Covid!

So I guess I deserve some new shoes?

Most Accurate Covid Test Self-Test Kits In Malaysia

For the past 2 weeks, the number of positive cases have skyrocketed in Malaysia. There were 27k positive cases yesterday. I usually don’t stock up on Covid-19 Self Test Kits but will do now because it is better to do self test for peace of mind if anyone has been a close contact and etc. Many pharmacies are out of self-test kits when I went to get some to standby. I wanted to get the 2 brands that were recommended by a pharmacist last year. According to her, these 2 brands have an overall sensitivity of 90%. This means that they are catching roughly 90% of people who are infected with the virus.

Luckily I managed to Grab the Covid Self Test Kits from Good Medic Pharmacy which is located in the next neighbourhood. Below are some of the most reliable Covid Self Test Kit Malaysia.

They are the Salixum Saliva and Nasal Swab and ProDetect (saliva/nasal) Covid 19 Antigen Rapid Self-Test Kits. The Salixum used to cost RM8.90 each but now it has gone up to RM11.90. Pro Detect is also about RM8 each. Both brands are made in Malaysia.

While going through the KKM-approved list of self test kit, Salixum is listed but not ProDetect. According to the pharmacist, it is better to get the higher range self-test kits (above RM6) because they are more reliable. Have you been stocking up too?

Happy Valentine’s Day

Can’t believe it that we are already in mid-February and today is Valentine’s Day. Tomorrow is Chap Goh Mei which marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebration. Chinese New Year Celebration Is Over

Time sure whizzes by. Just a week ago, I was so looking forward to going back to Ipoh to celebrate The Chinese New Year with my family and relatives and today is already the Day 9 of the Lunar New Year. I went back to work on Tuesday as it was a good day for my animal sign.

For Reunion dinner, we had Korean BBQ in Taman Segar, Cheras with hubs’ family. We went to the same restaurant – Dae Bak Korean Restaurant 2 years back for reunion dinner too. We love the food there because they are delicious and affordable. This restaurant is run by a Korean couple and their son was there to help out and we had a nice time chatting with their son who speaks Mandarin and English.

Missy and I took the train back to Ipoh on Day 1 of Chinese New Year as hubs has to stay back to look after the 2 rascals. Unlike me, he doesn’t have any relatives in Ipoh except for an uncle so it was fine that he did not go back to Ipoh. I felt the train ride was super long that day because it took almost 3 hours to reach Ipoh with the many stops it had to take along the way. Perhaps I was too excited to go back and see my relatives again.

We had the usual gathering at my aunt’s house and it was great to see everyone again. Later that night, we had our annual family dinner with my dad, mum and siblings at Super HLT. Food was delicious and because dad booked the 8pm slot for the dinner, the whole place was almost empty except for a few tables. Less crowd is always a good idea in this pandemic time.

Day 2 was spent watching the lion dance performance at Bedrock Hotel and then meeting up with my good friends at a cafe. On that night, my brother-in-law cooked some ribs and we all had dinner at Bedrock Hotel, while being entertained by their singer friend. It was a fun night.

Day 3 was spent checking out of the Mu Hotel where missy and I stayed and then having lunch before we took the 3pm train home. Our Balik Kampung was short but sweet.

Getting Ready For Chinese New Year

For this year, I didn’t do much when it comes to decorating my home for Chinese New Year. I managed to buy 2 really red plain lanterns from a shop in my neighbourhood. They are just the type that I want.

I usually hang them on the porch and will leave them there for a year. What about you?

Remember the beautiful Christmas wreath that I received in 2020? I recycled it into a Chinese New Year wreath last new year and for this year, I took down the previous year’s decor and added these peonies and some gold leave designs. What I did was hot glue these flowers onto the wreath.

Roller Skating At Roller Wa

When Ashley found out that Roller Wa has opened in One Utama, thanks to Tik-Tokers who have been posting about this place, she ‘begged’ me to bring her there. Roller Wa is an indoor roller-skating rink that comes from Korea. Malaysia is the 3rd rink of Roller Wa. As you can see, Ashley loves everything that has rollers just like skateboarding, rollerblading, ice skating and now roller skating.

So we made our way to One Utama one Sunday morning with her cousin Sophie and her friend, Nadine. Roller Wa is a cashless store and everything is done online. Tickets have to be ordered from the booth outside the skating rink. There will be staff around the booth to assist. The price is RM12 per entry and RM28 for 2 hour of roller skating. Once inside, the skaters can rent the roller skates which come in black and white. The fee includes the rental of the skates and also the protective gear. Ashley brought her own gears that day as she said it is more hygienic.

During the 2 hour session, K-pop songs will be blasting away while everyone skates. There are also disco lights everywhere for the old skool vibe. Luckily Ashley likes K-pop and so do I although I am only familiar with BTS and Black Pink *chuckle* The skating area is about 1000 sq. ft. and the skaters go round and round the rink. There are also many cool Instagrammable areas inside Roller Wa.

I went in to Roller Wa and sat at the Disco Cafe to wait for her and the girls. Of course I have to pay RM12 for the entry. When I was a teen, I never like roller-skating because I don’t know how to balance myself. I remember putting on those heavy metal rollers that came with straps to tie the shoe like the photo below.

The girls had a blast that day and they want to go again. My Birthday Celebration

Last week was my birthday and I received a surprise gift the night before. My dear friends sent me a keto dinner which consisted of a fried cauli duck rice, a slice of lemon blueberry cake and a cappuccino. Together with the meal were 2 tubs of keto cookies. Just in time for Chinese New Year. The dinner was sumptuous and it was ordered from Thirty Seconds, a keto restaurant.

A few days before my birthday, I received a package from Shopee. It contained 2 jars of keto chocolate spread. There was no messages on the package and I didn’t know who sent them to me. Initially, I thought they were from my friends or sisters but they said no. In the end, I found out that it’s from hubs.

The dark chocolate nut butter is simply delicious. It’s so soft and easy to spread.

On the day of my birthday, I received a surprise delivery. It was a keto lemon cheesecake sent to my office. They ordered the yummy cake from my favourite bakery – Suchan. One week after my birthday and I am still eating this cake. That’s how big it is.

A little later, there was another delivery and one of my friends sent me this lovely box of goodies. It contained my favorite salted pork skin and pork rinds. On top of that, there were 4 packages of different types of bacon. Man, I have gone to porky heaven!

I am so blessed. Later that night, my sisters treated me to dinner at Three Little Pigs and Wolf in Bangsar Village. It was a memorable birthday for me.

Things That Make Me Happy

I love succulents. I guess you can tell from the theme of my blog. There is just something about these little green plants that make me smile. I have blogged about my previous buy here. I even made paper succulents as gifts for my friends. There is a plant seller that comes to my neighbourhood’s market once a week and I usually would pop over to have a look for some plant therapy. I spotted this cute one and cannot resist.
